How does blogging increase sales?

Actually the real question our clients and prospects ask is "Why should I bother to blog." Quite frankly so did I when blogging first came onto the marketing radar. At that time I decided I should assign it to others rather than myself because I am a designer, not a writer. Only recently have I made the connection that blogging is directly related to sales and since it is my responsibility to grow my business, then it was my responsibility to blog. But that’s another whole story. Let’s get on to why blogging impacts sales.

The connection between blogging and sales.

Clients come to us because they want to grow their business. They want one or all of these:

•    They want their business to be remembered
•    They want to generate traffic to their website
•    They want to increase profit with better leads

Writing articles for your blog will help improve each of these business challenges. Keeping the topics focused on what your customers are looking for will establish your company as the ‘go-to’ site for relevant information. It will attract new clients that never heard of your company before. And over time will attract specific prospects who will become customers because they trust you and have an established relationship with you through your blog articles. You are providing value for them.

Still don’t see the connection?

increase salesBlogging gives your site:

•    Better SEO (search engine optimization)
•    More traffic
•    More inbound links

What is better SEO?

The more keywords in your content that people are searching for the better your SEO will be. So choose a specific topic to write about using those specific keywords. Use those words for the alt tags for your photos, your meta description and tags. Using a keyword tool will help improve your keyword usage in your articles.

How SEO results in more traffic.

SEO improves the visibility of your site in search engines such as Google. The more relevant the content is to the word searched by your customers the higher the ranking of the page. Google also considers each of your blog articles as a new page. The more indexed pages the more Google likes it. The higher your pages rank the more likely your customers will find you. The more people that find you the more traffic you get.

Why you want to increase inbound links.

Inbound links are from other sites pointing to your content. In other words, getting the word out to the people they know about what you said. And the bonus is that the search engines perceive you as an authority when you have more links coming to your site. So not only do you have others spreading the word, you are improving your rank in the search engines. Blogging is an excellent way to get inbound links.

No more excuses.

So if you are like me, wanting to increase your sales and improve the bottom line, it’s time to give this a shot. And the more frequently you blog, the more you will increase your traffic. It will be exponential.increase customers

Look at this graph if you don’t believe me. The data was collected by HubSpot, an inbound markeing software company that we partner with. They have conducted research that shows how blogging, one component of inbound marketing, can improve your bottom line. Plus if you combine inbound marketing tactics such as blogging and social media with your traditional marketing, you will be well on your way to growing your business. But we’ll discuss that in another article.

Remember:

  • Without traffic to your site you don't have the opportunity to sell.
  • Build traffic by creating content that is relevant and valuable to your customer.
  • Use SEO to improve your search engine page rank and get found.
  • Blog more frequently to increase your traffic and links.
