Optimize web pages to get found.
I have a pet peeve. Invisible websites.
Sounds absurd, doesn't it? But this is how many, many websites are built.
Optimize web pages.
Optimizing web pages is the first step in preparing a website to get found. Through optimization, pages are developed in such a way as to let search engines know what your website/page is about so that they can match relevant websites/pages to what people are searching for.
Search engines read words, not pictures.
We communicate through words. What we say about our product or service conveys to the reader what we want them to know. The reader may also have searched for information using particular words.
The search engine looks at words (keywords) to determine whether the page content is relevant to the keyword phrases being searched. A web page with photos and very few words will make it difficult for search engines to index your website. It needs words to do that. This is the ultimate invisible website.
Search engines look in particular places on a web page for the keywords. If it doesn't find these words in those places, it may determine the page is not relevant to the search, especially if there are a lot of other websites competing for the same keyword phrases. Especially in a crowded space it is important to give the search engines what they need in order to show how relevant you are for the keyword phrase. A well-optimized web page will help your website get found.
Using the house analogy above, the places search engines look for keywords on your web page is akin to having doors and windows, as well as a description of your house, maybe even directions to your house. Without this information, you might be very hard to find.
Final word.
Don't accept being invisible. Make sure the search engines know you exist. Prepare your web pages to be readable not only by humans but by search engines too.
